Balancing the Budget without Raising Taxes (HB 1)

Balancing the budget without raising taxes is the chief and defining challenge of the 82nd Texas Legislature.

In the 2011 legislative session, conservatives have a duty to taxpayers to meaningfully reduce state spending in order to balance the 2012-13 state budget without raising taxes.  To rise to the challenge posed by the revenue shortfall, conservatives will sharpen the focus of our state on a few key priorities stemming from our state constitution, while eliminating waste, inefficiency, and other distractions from our core constitutional missions.

House Bill 1, as passed by the Texas House of  Representatives, makes necessary general revenue spending reductions to conform to the Comptroller’s available revenue projections for the biennium.  Conservatives in the Texas House have kept their word, as defined by the TCC Pledge with Texans.
