Senate Bill 18 strengthens the property rights of owners who are faced with having their property confiscated by an entity with the power of eminent domain.  The bill achieves a number of property rights protections, and scales back the power of eminent domain. 

SB 18 would also enact a number of recommendations from the 2006 Private Property Rights Task Force Report issued by the Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute (TCCRI).  

The bill passed the Texas Senate on February 9, 2011, and passed the Texas House of Representatives on April 14, 2011.  
SB 18 was signed into law by Governor Rick Perry on May 19, 2011.
