John Zerwas
In 2006, State Representative John Zerwas was elected to represent the people of House District 28. District 28 includes the counties of Waller, Wharton, and part of Fort Bend. Dr. John Zerwas is the only physician serving in the Texas House. Representative Zerwas was one of only three freshman appointed to the Appropriations Committee. He also served as Chairman of Budget and Oversight on the Land and Resource Management Committee and was appointed to House Administration.
An active family-oriented conservative, Dr. Zerwas has served our area as a physician for over 20 years. John and his wife Cindy have four children, John, Joseph, Brandon, Sherry, and son-in-law Matthew.Â

HB 644 - Pledge with Texans Bill
Texas needs more highways and roads to move people and goods efficiently around the state. House Bill 644 ends diversions from the State Highway Fund to re-dedicate gas tax revenues to road construction and maintenance.Â

Texas needs to be prepared to respond to health care reform if enacted in Washington. State Rep. John Zerwas passed HB 497 to establish a plan to ensure the continued delivery of health care services if the Texas Medicaid program is abolished or the amount of federal matching money is severely reduced.

SB 7 (82-1) - HHS Reform
SB 7, which has passed both houses of the Legislature in the Special Session, makes a range of reforms to health and human services programs and agencies in order to improve service delivery, to generate revenue savings to the state, and to improve quality and efficiency of health care. Key provisions include: expanding Medicaid Managed Care to South Texas counties, abolishing the State Kids Insurance Program, transitioning away from fee-for-service health care program models, and allowing for the creation of health care collaboratives to reduce the cost of health care.
