Texas Alliance for Life: Rally in Support of Pro-Life Heartbeat Bill
Texas Organizations to Rally Tuesday in Support of Pro-Life Heartbeat Bill
February 24, 2009
AUSTIN--Several major pro-life, pro-family organizations will host a news conference and rally today at the Capitol in support of the pro-life heartbeat bill, SB 182 and HB 36.
The news conference will be held at 9 a.m., Feb. 24, in the Senate Press Conference Room (2E.9) to show statewide support for this bill and will kick off the 2Heartbeats Pro-Life Lobby Day. Texas Alliance for Life's executive director, Joe Pojman, Ph.D., will be among the speakers.
Following the news conference, a Rally will be held on the South Steps of the Capitol featuring special guests Gov. Rick Perry,Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Attorney Gen. Greg Abbott, bill authors Sen. Dan Patrick (R-Houston) and Rep. Frank Corte Jr. (R-San Antonio).
SB 182/HB 36, authored by Sen. Dan Patrick (R-Houston) and Rep. Frank Corte Jr. (R-San Antonio), would update the Women's Right to Know Act (Chap. 171, Health and Safety Code) to ensure that every pregnant woman be given the opportunity to listen to the heartbeat and view an ultrasound image of her unborn child at least two hours prior to proceeding with the abortion procedure. The bill does not require the woman to view the child's image. Visit www.2heartbeats.org for more information.
"This bill is one of our top priorities," said Pojman. "We cannot understand why anyone would deny women the information they need to decide whether to have an abortion."
